They first met on the Metro when her bike was busted and he knew how to fix it.
Boy meets girl.
They ran into each other again at a recovery meeting that she was running.
Girl meets boy.
They’ve been together ever since. It’s not your typical Hollywood love story, but it is a story happening on the streets of Hollywood.
Tim Sterry has been living homeless for about 13 years, recently getting a tent. Daisy Kukuruza has been experiencing housing insecurity for about four years, currently living in a bridging housing program.
They’ve been in love for five months trying to make their housing situation work.
One of the biggest challenges for them is not having privacy to have “emotional intimacy,” says Daisy. They try to save money to get a motel room once a month, but, otherwise, they spent most of their time in public.
While they spend every waking moment together exploring the city, when night falls they have to part.
Tim doesn’t qualify to join Daisy’s housing program, so he sleeps near a construction site. He sleeps knowing that there are criminals next to Daisy. And she tries to sleep not knowing if Tim will be greeting her in the morning when he picks her up.
But, somehow, their love story continues.
